 |  Reporters Without Borders (Reporters Sans Frontières)
 |  worldwide index of press freedom published it's second
 |  world press freedom ranking on October 20, 2003.
 |
 |  The United States and Israel were singled out for actions
 |  beyond their borders.  To compile this ranking, Reporters
 |  Without Borders asked journalists, researchers, jurists and
 |  human rights activists to fill out a questionnaire
 |  evaluating the whole range of press freedom violations
 |  (such as murders or arrests of journalists, censorship,
 |  pressure, state monopolies in various fields, punishment of
 |  press law offenses and regulation of the media).  A total of
 |  166 countries are included in the ranking (as against 139
 |  last year).  Among the results are Finland on the first
 |  place, Sweden on the ninth, U.S. on U.S. territory on
 |  thirty-first, U.S. on occupied territory on 135'th place (of
 |  166 countries).
